Before Scotty and Sulu; before McCoy; before even Capt. Kirk was Captain Pike. Who? Produced in November of 1964, the original pilot for Star Trek was titled “The Cage”. It preceded the most influential series in television history by a good two years. The pilot was unaired in 1965 and later sliced and diced and made into a 2-part episode “The Menagerie” that aired in November 1966. The Cage, was rejected by NBC for being "too cerebral".
The captain of the Enterprise is Jeffrey Hunter, Leonard Nimoy is present as SPOCK with some deadly, devilish eyebrows. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry is Number One but participated in just about every incarnation of the franchise until her death in 2008.
